Another great 60's chart, but not quite as good as Fridays. More songs I know, but less songs I really like.

1. To Sir With Love - Lulu (Sick of it.)
2. The Letter - Box Tops (Good song, but I'll defend the Arbors version to the death!)
3. Never My Love - Association (My least fave of theirs)
4. How Can I Be Sure - Young Rascals (Love this, even the sloppy edit in the middle "I can't seem to find someone who's a-..." Pay close attention to that line. How did Arif Mardin let that slip by?)
5. Expressway To Your Heart - Soul Survivors (Great one. A buddy of mine knew one of the musicians who played on this.)
6. It Must Be Him - Vikki Carr (WAAAY to Adult Contemporary for my tastes)
7. Soul Man - Sam & Dave (better than The Blues Brothers)
8. Little Ole Man (Uptight - Everything's Alright) - Bill Cosby (cool cover version, but I never understood the point of this story.)
9. Gimme Little Sign - Brenton Wood (one of the many themes of my life.)
10. Your Precious Love - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (nice ballad.)
11. Get On Up - Esquires (Generic soul record, but decent enough).
12. Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song) - Buckinghams (possibly my favorite on this chart).

30. The Look Of Love - Dusty Springfield (Sergio's version of this is the best, no offence to Dusty.)
31. The Last Waltz - Engelbert Humperdinck (Don't like him).
32. Child Of Clay - Jimmie Rodgers (I have an Mp3 of this, but it was taken from a poor-quality 45. Probably never available on CD. Not that great anyway).
33. Holiday - Bee Gees (Great early hit from one of my favorite groups.)
34. I Dig Rock And Roll Music - Peter, Paul & Mary (One of their records I'm most familiar with).

36. What Now My Love - Mitch Ryder (His worst hit. So bad that Rhino didn't even include it on their anthology.)

1.When I was a kid my mom and I use to watch the movie quite a bit when it was shown on TV . We had the 45 in the house as well.


2.Love this!! but what a short song - so catchy

3.Silky smooth harmonies , just a great song all around.

4.So good !

5.Love the traffic sound effects - a great bit of soul . Bought the 45 in the late 80's.

6.I know Vikki - well not personally LOL but I've never heard this.

7.Always a big fave - super guitar from Steve Cropper . I have it on both CD and 45.


8.I remember taping this off the radio while in high school. Love it!

1. To Sir With Love - Lulu - Fine song. The charts that didn't list Light My Fire as the #1 song of the year, listed this one.

2. The Letter - Box Tops - A great song. Spawned two great covers also.

3. Never My Love - Association - One of their better ballads.

4. How Can I Be Sure - Young Rascals - My fave by them. Top 250!

5. Expressway To Your Heart - Soul Survivors - One of those gimmicky songs. Never much cared for it.

6. It Must Be Him - Vikki Carr - No! Just...no!

7. Soul Man - Sam & Dave - Like it a lot.

8. Little Ole Man (Uptight - Everything's Alright) - Bill Cosby - Not a bad song. One funny thing: Back in '67, for a very short period of time, the word "Uptight" meant "cool" or "OK". Not long after (maybe a month or two), the word came to mean "stressed" or "worried" - a totally opposite meaning. This second meaning is the one that everyone remembers, which makes the song sound weird.

9. Gimme Little Sign - Brenton Wood - His follow up to (and a bigger hit than) The Oogum Boogum Song. Not bad (but I liked Oogum better).

10. Your Precious Love - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - Loved their duets. Unfortunately, they didn;t do that many. This is a good one.

11. Get On Up - Esquires - eh.

12. Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song) - Buckinghams - Not bad, but I liked others of theirs better.

13. A Natural Woman (You Make Me Feel Like) - Aretha Franklin - This followed Respect, and I liked it even more.

14. Ode To Billie Joe - Bobbie Gentry - Great story song. All time top 250!

15. Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher - Jackie Wilson - Not a bad comeback song, but I liked his earlier stuff (where his great vocal range and power were featured) better.

16. Come Back When You Grow Up - Bobby Vee & The Strangers - Another comeback song. Also, not as good as his earlier stuff.

17. People Are Strange - Doors - One of my faves by them.

18. Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie - Jay & The Techniques - Not bad, not great.

19. Incense And Peppermints - Strawberry Alarm Clock - A lot of people think of this group and song when they talk about psychadelic music. -- But it's not at all psychadelic. Only the title and the group name are psychadelic. Got waaay overplayed back in the day. I like it better now.

20. Please Love Me Forever - Bobby Vinton - One of his weaker efforts.

21. Let It Out - Hombres - Not bad. Again, one of those gimmicky songs.

22. You Keep Running Away - Four Tops - Not my fave by them.

23. Let Love Come Between Us - James & Bobby Purify - Not sure I remember the song. (I do remember the group)

24. Lightning's Girl - Nancy Sinatra - Nancy tried to project a leather and tough-girl image. When she did this, no one had to focus on the fact that carrying a tune was difficult for her. This one wasn't all that bad.

25. Dandelion - Rolling Stones - Change of pace for them. Not a bad song.

26. I'm Wondering - Stevie Wonder - Barely remember this one.

27. Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison - I just checked, and was surprised to see that this never got higher than #10. Great song. All time top 250!

28. Ode To Billie Joe - King Curtis & His King Pins - I KNOW I never heard this version.

29. Love Is Strange - Peaches & Herb - Not a very good cover at all. Cannot hold a candle to Mickey and Sylvia.

30. The Look Of Love - Dusty Springfield - Pretty good song.

31. The Last Waltz - Engelbert Humperdinck - Nah.

32. Child Of Clay - Jimmie Rodgers - Yet another comeback song. Yet another artist who didn't live up to his former capabilities.

33. Holiday - Bee Gees - Love this! Like all the early Bee Gees songs.

34. I Dig Rock And Roll Music - Peter, Paul & Mary - Definitely a different sound for them. Very enjoyable.

35. The Rain, The Park And Other Things - Cowsills - By far, their best, IMO.

36. What Now My Love - Mitch Ryder - WOW!!! Was this ever weird! After several really good rockers, Mitch decides to go psychadelic, and does it by throwing out a bunch of noise and discord. That said, it was interesting to listen to once or twice -- but that's it.

37. Even The Bad Times Are Good - Tremeloes - Great song! Love this group. (I'm going to have to investigate them some more)

I need to get out Time Peace and listen to that edit in 'How Can I Be Sure' - I must have missed that before! Excellent song - I love it too!

'Keep the Ball Rollin' is a great song, but I hardly ever hear it on the oldies stations here for some reason. I'd like to check out more of their work sometime.

I'm a little tired of 'Brown Eyed Girl' also. Van Morrison had quite a few good songs, but radio seems to be stuck on it and 'Domino'.

Is that Mitch Ryder song a cover of Herb Alpert's hit? I've never heard it, but it sounds like I'm not missing anything!

I really like those traffic sounds in 'Expressway to Your Heart' also! I hear it quite often on the oldies stations, but I never tire of it.

'Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie' is a favorite of mine as well - it would be in my top 10 60s songs! I first heard it in either 1989 or 1990, and loved it right away.

I didn't know that about King Curtis either - it would be interesting to hear that version!

Those impersonations in 'I Dig Rock and Roll' music are great, aren't they? They sound very close to the Mamas & the Papas especially!

I remember being so upset after I saw the movie Ode to Billie Joe and realized that Robby Benson's character died at the end!

I like 'Holiday' a lot as well. It took a little while to grow on me, but I'm really getting into their earlier material more and more those days.

This second meaning is the one that everyone remembers, which makes the song sound weird.

9. Gimme Little Sign - Brenton Wood - His follow up to (and a bigger hit than) The Oogum Boogum Song. Not bad (but I liked Oogum better).

10. Your Precious Love - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - Loved their duets. Unfortunately, they didn;t do that many. This is a good one.

11. Get On Up - Esquires - eh.

12. Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song) - Buckinghams - Not bad, but I liked others of theirs better.

13. A Natural Woman (You Make Me Feel Like) - Aretha Franklin - This followed Respect, and I liked it even more.

15. Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher - Jackie Wilson - Not a bad comeback song, but I liked his earlier stuff (where his great vocal range and power were featured) better.

17. People Are Strange - Doors - One of my faves by them.

19. Incense And Peppermints - Strawberry Alarm Clock - A lot of people think of this group and song when they talk about psychadelic music. -- But it's not at all psychadelic. Only the title and the group name are psychadelic. Got waaay overplayed back in the day. I like it better now.

20. Please Love Me Forever - Bobby Vinton - One of his weaker efforts.

21. Let It Out - Hombres - Not bad. Again, one of those gimmicky songs.

22. You Keep Running Away - Four Tops - Not my fave by them.

23. Let Love Come Between Us - James & Bobby Purify - Not sure I remember the song. (I do remember the group)

24. Lightning's Girl - Nancy Sinatra - Nancy tried to project a leather and tough-girl image. When she did this, no one had to focus on the fact that carrying a tune was difficult for her. This one wasn't all that bad.

25. Dandelion - Rolling Stones - Change of pace for them. Not a bad song.

26. I'm Wondering - Stevie Wonder - Barely remember this one.

27. Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison - I just checked, and was surprised to see that this never got higher than #10. Great song. All time top 250!

You make a good point about 'Uptight' - with the meaning it has today, that title does sound contradictory. I've always liked Stevie's version a lot, but I'm not sure I've heard Bill's.

'Come Back When You Grow Up' is pleasant, but sounds a little out of place among some of these songs - more early-mid 60s in style.

I'm with you about the Cowsills - they had some good songs, but 'The Rain, The Park..' was definitely their best. Absolutely love it!

That Mitch Ryder song does sound pretty weird! Wonder why he decided to change his style - his other songs always sounded good.

'Dandelion' is great - my favorite Stones tune along with 'Fool to Cry'. I wish the oldies stations here would play it more often.

I'm with you about 'The Rain, The Park & Other Things' being the best song on here. I've loved it since first listen - it's my 3rd favorite song from the 60s.

I agree about Marvin and Tammi - their vocal ranges and styles suited each other well. It's sad that we lost both of these talented singers at such young ages.

'Hey Baby' reminds me of 'Don't You Care' quite a bit. I don't hear it as often on the oldies stations as that one and 'Kind of a Drag', but it's a good song.

I'm definitely curious about that King Curtis version of 'Ode to Billie Joe'! It must be pretty obscure, as none of us on the Click have heard it!
