Here is Bluebird is Dead, from ELO's 1973 album On the Third Day: Anyone else think this is very reminiscent of John Lennon's style, especially on the verses? Definitely, Dawn! I remember back a couple of years ago I went through a phase of getting into ELO's music in general (made a double cd mix even). I posted a comment here on one of our boards about how much Jeff Lynne sounded like John Lennon. Adam (I think) replied that Jeff made a special effort to do just that. The entire Beatles/Lennon style comes through on this song.

Love those Moodies tracks. The guitar riff at the intro of "You and Me" reminds of "Lovely To See You."

Here's a couple from The Moody Blues: Those seven (I think) concept albums (these songs are from Every Good Boy and Seventh Sojourn, aren't they?) that the Moodies put together are ones that I can listen to non stop, one after the other. In fact, I have.

Here is another of my favorites, The Guess Who's The Answer: This originally appeared on 1970's Share the Land, but is also included on their Anthology, which is where I first heard it. Love the backing harmonies and the guitar work especially. Feel free to add as many as you like! This is a great song, Dawn. I was totally unfamiliar with it. I agree about the guitar work. One funny thing. I experienced a "misheard lyric" moment just now listening to it - one that could never have happened in 1970. When they sing "I'd like to help you, but you're too far gone" I was hearing "I'd like to help you if you do log on." Ah, the internet age! I have to say, there are times when it seems hard to believe there was no internet (or at least not one that was widely used) until somewhat recently, as it's such an integral part of our culture now.

Here's a couple from The Moody Blues: Great classic Moodies tracks, Pete. I agree with Ed, their albums through Seventh Sojourn are very cohesive, and very well done.

From the "Meanwhile Back At The Ranch" special: Smitty, great footage! These guys seriously rocked. I like how Robert, Terry and Peter trade vocals on this one.

A Beach Boys gem, All I Wanna Do, from 1970's Sunflower:
IMO, the best lead vocal Mike Love ever did. Wonderful track.
(And a happy birthday to Brian, who turns 67 today!)

I really like it. -- I wonder if the Beach Boys raised their collective eyebrows just a little a couple of years later, when they heard Todd Rundgren's "I Saw the Light"

Love both songs.

Another Beach Boys gem, this time from their early years, 1963.
Your Summer Dream, featuring Brian Wilson on vocal:
One of my favorites from their early period. Lovely melody, and Brian's voice is especially great on this.

Love both songs. Well, I didn't think I was familiar with thenBeach Boy's song, but then when I started to listen to it, I started thinking that I WAS familiar with it. And then it goes off in a different direction, so I went back to the start and hummed along with it. Then when it started to diverged, I paused the play, and continued on my own. Before I know it I'm singing I Saw The Light. LOL!
