One of my favorite America deeper cuts is Cornwall Blank, from their 1973 album Homecoming: I finally got to hear the YouTube Clip last night when I got home from the hospital. It was a good enough song that I sought out and downloaded the full length version. I think it captures America's early sound - or maybe their main sound quite well. It sucks not being to access YouTube at work. I'll have to wait until tonight to hear Pete's contribution.

A lot of America's earlier music in particular has an interesting "dark" quality to it, and it's very evident in this song. When I saw them live, this song was a huge hit with the crowd.

One of my favorite Three Dog Night tunes. Also the b-side of "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)" Definitely an underrated track. Great vocals, and the instrumental track has a nice rocking edge.

One of my favorite America deeper cuts is Cornwall Blank, from their 1973 album Homecoming: I'm sure you know as well as anyone, Dawn, how big a fan I am of the first two America albums. To me, they kind of lost their "dark" edge after that, but songs like this are the main reason why I love those two albums so much! Also, I have never seen them live (but they're definitely on my "to see" list). If they do stuff like this in concert, I HAVE to go!

Now that I think of it, I believe they performed this one both times I saw them (2006 and '07). They do all the hits in their shows, but also mix in a fair number of deeper album cuts - California Revisited, Riverside and Hangover are three that I remember in addition to this song, and I'm thinking there were more I'm forgetting. Definitely check them out when they're in your area, as I think you would really enjoy their show. Their first two albums are excellent, I agree. Hearts is pretty good too, and I also like Silent Letter a lot.

A few I can think of...
From Van Halen: "5150" off the album of the same title. Probably some of the better Edward Van Halen guitar work....very underrated track.
Another from Van Halen: "The Dream is Over" off the "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" album. Loud, direct, and to the point song about corrupt politicians and corrupt governments. Great rocker.
From RUSH...."Marathon"....beautiful sounding and beautifully arranged song. Totally unforgettable bassline, as well as amazing choral backing vocals towards the end of the song. This tune is fantastic....in my opinion, their best work.
Huey Lewis and the News...."Simple as That" off the "Fore" album. Great big band/jazz sound on a song about the realization that life is moving too fast.

My favorite Dr. Hook song. Not a single, a true shame! That definitely could have been a successful chart hit had it been a single. Wonder why it wasn't released as such?

Couple of Rolling Stones tracks, to keep this feature going!
To me, the "Let It Bleed" album always had a dark shadow over it due to the whole Altamont incident. It IS a very dark record with a lot of scary lyrics. This has always been a favorite of mine, especially the intro! Makes the hairs on my arms stand up! (BTW- try to ignore the promo at the beginning of this clip. I couldn't find one without it).
"Sticky Fingers" was also a very dark record, full of songs about drug abuse. The closing track, "Moonlight Mile", is a nice relaxing contrast to the horror of songs like "Sister Morphine", and ends the album nicely.
Finally, from "Exile On Main Street" I chose "Ventilator Blues" segued into "I Just Wanna See His Face" (since I just couldn't stand to seperate them. Thankfully I found a clip with both!)
Enjoy!
