Often on weekends Nancy and I sit at a prolonged breakfast, drinking good coffee and listening to Sirius-XM on the computer. We usually listen to the '50s, '60s or '70s (less often the '80s) or Cliassic Vinyl or Rewind. Last Sunday, we were listening to the '70s. They have a feature called "The '70s Jukebox of Cheese" where they play - well -- '70s 'cheese.' Songs that most of us either weren't fond of, or if we were, they were usually guilty pleasures. An example of what they have played is Donny Osmond's "Sweet and Innocent." Well - on this particular morning, they announce the Jukebox of Cheese, and what do they play? Michael Murphey's "Wildfire." Now - not everybody likes this song, but Cheese?? C'mon!! I'm pretty sure I've heard this on Classic Vinyl! They don't play cheese! What do you guys think?

Hi Ed,
First, I just want to mention how much I like that title, "The Jukebox of Cheese" it made me giggle ;D
I don't agree either, I think it's a great song , I've liked it since I heard it in late '75 courtesy of Ktel's "Music Express."
Now David Geddes "Run Joey Run" on the other hand, now that's cheesy!

He didn't mean to (he really wanted to blow away that scum Joey) but .. but ... he shot his DAUGHTER. Cheese? No! RANCID Cheese! ;D

"Wildfire" cheese? No way! "Sweet and Innocent", though, definitely qualifies, as does "Run Joey Run" - and I must confess to owning both songs on 45. ::hides under the table:: I like the '70s XM channel, and get a kick out of the "Jukebox of Cheese," but I think they have a tendency sometimes to overcharacterize the "cheese" factor (as in the case of "Wildfire.") There's nothing cheesy about a well-written pop song, even if it might be a bit dated.

They had TEH SECKS!!! ), but it's never explicitly said in the lyrics. The world may never know...

Well I googled "jukebox" and "Cheese", and found some threads devoted to discussion of this program. Someone asked what were songs that should be on the program, and they got a long list of songs. Many are the usual suspects when you ask people what the worst ever songs are.
I don't really like "Wildfire", but I find that I like it better than the songs on the cheese list! So- not Cheese!
I see how you feel. There were 4 songs on the cheese list that I just can't imagine anyone would call cheese. Not just that they aren't horrible, but that they're really good.
At least one person named these:
Hot Rod Lincoln Elusive Butterfly (B Lind) Thunder & Lightning (C Coltrane) Itchycoo Park (FAces)

I don't know if she was pregnant or they was just goin' out, and he weren't good enuff fur her accordin' ta Pappy. But I don't thionk this one ranks up with what I consider the two greatest mysteries of the rock era: 1. What was Bobbie G. and Billy Joe throwing off the Tallahatchee Bridge? 2. Who killed Mary?

Would "Billy, Don't Be A Hero" count? That might be cheese, but it's dang GOOD cheese! ;D

Perfect example, Dave! Back in the day, a friend of mine and I wrote a parody called "Cesspool in My Mind" ;D

BTW, did you ever hear the version by Paper Lace, with the guy who sounds like a girl?
