Lynyrd Skynyrd sang of Free Bird, and the Strawberry Alarm Clock performed "Birds in my Tree" (flip side of "Tomorrow")

The Strawberry Alarm Clock had a minor hit with "Barefoot in Baltimore" singing about a lady (Lady Godiva) who had more than her feet bare were Peter and Gordon.

I swear this has been used, but oh well...
Peter and Gordon's "I go to pieces" was written by Del Shannon.

Del's name was tossed around the surviving Wilburys to replace the late Roy Orbison.

Roy's Blue Bayou later became a hit for Linda Ronstadt.

Roy's Blue Bayou later became a hit for Linda Ronstadt. Okay, deep breath for this one. Linda Ronstadt was once romantically linked to Jim Carrey, who was later linked with Renee Zellweger, who had a brief marriage early last year to Kenny Chesney. End link.

Uncle Kracker did a cover of "Drift Away" and the Kinks had a song by the same name.

Uncle Kracker did a cover of "Drift Away" and the Kinks had a song by the same name. The Kinks' Stop Your Sobbing was covered by The Pretenders.

The O'Jays had a huge R&B hit in the summer of 1972 called Backstabbers. It peaked at #3. Interestingly, almost exactly one year earlier, the #3 song was another R&B hit that had the same theme, going behind someones back. This song, Smiling Faces Sometimes, was musically very similar to Backstabbers as well, and was a hit for The Undisputed Truth.

The Undisputed Truth recorded for Motown's Gordy label, as did The Temptations.

Smokey and his group The Miracles had a hit with "The Tracks of My Tears". Covering the song, and having an even bigger hit with it was Johnny Rivers.
