OK, I'm assuming since you have the word "artist" underlined, you mean "an individual, rather than a band". This shouldn't be too hard. Here goes:
"Mary"-Sarah MacLachlan "Sharayah"-Amy Grant "Valerie"-Steve Winwood "Lucille"-Kenny Rogers "Carrie"-Cliff Richard
Let me think of one now...hmmm...
Gimme 5 songs with numbers in their title recorded by bands that also have numbers in their name. (There are LOTS of possible answers here!) You can use the same band more than once.

Chains - The Cookies Long Tall Sally - Little Richard Money (That's What I Want) - Barrett Strong Twist and Shout - Isley Brothers Honey Don't - Carl Perkins Gimme five songs in which the song titles are questions. Whose in the Strawberry Patch With Sally? - Tony Orlando and Dawn Who's Making Love? - Johnnie Taylor What In The World's Come Over You? - Jack Scott Why (Wont You Be My Girl)? - The Chartbusters Who Do You Think You Are? - Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods Gimme five artists who recorded songs that had one word titles, and that word is a girl's name. Bernadette--Four Tops Beth--KISS Mandy--Barry Manilow (sure, you said "artists"...does Barry count?) Maybelline--Chuck Berry Wendy--Beach Boys Gimme five cover versions of songs that are widely considered superior to the original (example--Otis Redding openly admitted that Aretha's "Respect" was superior to his original version)...

Excuse me, Grem, but was my answer not good enough? Please read my above post and you will see that I ALREADY ANSWERED THE QUESTION.

Excuse me, Grem, but was my answer not good enough? Please read my above post and you will see that I ALREADY ANSWERED THE QUESTION. OK ... I think there was a little misunderstanding here. I may have started it in my original post when I asked for you to name the artists. All I meant at the time was that I was looking for a list of five artists not just five song titles (to make it different than an earlier post). I didn't mean groups vs. soloists or vice versa. I think what happened is Laura answered the question correctly, but due to the fact that I hadn't responded yet, Grem may have thought that Laura had misinterpreted what I was asking for and answered himself. As it turns out, both sets of answers are correct. So ... here's what we'll do: I will answer Laura's question: One - Three Dog Night 3 A,.M. - Matchbox Twenty 24 Hours of Loneliness - Classics IV Nineteen Days - Dave Clark Five Opus 17 (Don't You Worry 'Bout Me) - Four Seasons and now the next person can continue by answering Grem's post: Gimme five cover versions of songs that are widely considered superior to the original (example--Otis Redding openly admitted that Aretha's "Respect" was superior to his original version)...

Excuse me, Grem, but was my answer not good enough? Please read my above post and you will see that I ALREADY ANSWERED THE QUESTION. My apologies--I saw the previous entry at the bottom of the page, and neglected to advance to the next. Simply put, I didn't see yours until now. Your answers were inspired and really a religious experience, and I am moritified that I caused any consternation. Well, maybe not mortified, but I do feel bad.

's ok! I don't have an answer to the latest question, though--I know what versions of songs _I_ like best, but my choices aren't always "widely considered superior". So I'll let someone else do it and see if I agree with them.

and now the next person can continue by answering Grem's post: Gimme five cover versions of songs that are widely considered superior to the original (example--Otis Redding openly admitted that Aretha's "Respect" was superior to his original version)... I'm gonna try and do this WITHOUT slipping in Elvis or the Beatles... "Hard to Handle"--the Black Crowes OWN this Otis Redding album track "Shambala"--Three Dog Night's version outsold BW Stevenson's original ten-to-one for a reason "Little Darlin'"--even though r 'n b purists may scream, the Diamonds version is superior to the Gladiolas 'Without You"--Nilsson over Badfinger. Any questions? "All Along the Watchtower"--Dylan now plays this in concert like Hendrix's cover Gimme Five "top forty" double-sided chart hit singles by artists OTHER than the Beatles or Elvis (example--"Hey Jude/Revolution" both charted---but since its the Beatles it doesn't count)

Gimme five one-hit wonders who featured members who went on to greater success with other bands (Example: Rubicon featured future members of Night Ranger) Are we talking "Top 40 one-hit wonders" or "Top 100 one-hit wonders"? I don't mean to sound like Dave (he once said, "I get VERY technical with one-hit wonders")--but I've been puzzling out some possible answers to this question, and I thought of a really good example where they only had 1 top 40 hit, but some of their other songs went top 100. So could you please clarify this?

Hot 100 One Hit Wonders are OK, as well as Two-hit Wonders. Yeah, but that doesn't quite answer my question about bands that HAVE HAD 1 TOP 40 HIT even though they have had other (even more than 2) top 100 hits. (For what it's worth, I was thinking of Buffalo Springfield. ) Oh well, let's see here what I can come up w/: Ides of March (Jim Peterik was later with Survivor) Jo Jo Gunne (Mark Andes--Heart) Ace (Paul Carrack--Mike & the Mechanics) Pilot (they were all part of the Alan Parsons Project at one time or another) Hotlegs (they were all part of 10cc) I also thought of New York City, which had future Chic founders Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers, but according to allmusic.com, they were members of New York City's BACKUP band, not of the (vocal) group itself. Go figure...Anyway, I think I got this right, so I'll go on and ask the next question: Gimme 5 songs with "Superman" in the title and/or lyrics. (there are lots of them)

"O Superman" Laurie Anderson Gimme Five artists/groups that are named after a food. This may also include desserts, soft drinks, condiments, etc. Bon appetite

Birthday Party - Pixies Three ... and of course ... Happy Birthday To You - Traditional Gimme 5 songs that are "answer" songs. That is, songs that were recorded (usually by a different artist) after another song. These answer songs more or less replied to the original song.

"Sweet Home Alabama"--answer to "Southern Man" "Daddy's Home"--answered "A Thousand Miles Away" "My Girl"--Smokey Robinson's own response to his "My Guy" "Helter Skelter"--I can't pinpoint the exact Who song, but Paul McCartney wrote it after hearing a Pete Townsend interview in which Pete claimed a Who song was the loudest and hardest song ever recorded, and McCartney took the remark as a challenge "Dum Dum Dum (Happy Song)"--Otis Redding wrote that as a response to his own "Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa" GIMME FIVE...tribute songs to other singers (so "Abraham, Martin and John" wouldn't count) AND you are limited to one tribute song to Elvis, Buddy Holly and John Lennon apiece!
