Throughout much of the first half of 1981, 2 Illinois rock groups battled it out on the album chart: Styx and REO Speedwagon.

Elvis loved his peanut butter sandwiches with banana. Another act who liked bananas (apparently) was Bananarama.

One of Bananarama's biggest hits was Venus, originally done by The Shocking Blue.

Can't pass this one up:
The Who recorded "My generation", and Generation X with Billy Idol recorded "Your generation".

Billy covered Mony Mony, originally a hit for Tommy James and the Shondells.

And right before Mony Mony, another Tommy James/Shondells remake sat atop the Billboard chart in November 1987: "I think we're alone now" by Tiffany.

Another of Tiffany's hits was a cover/adaptation of I Saw Her Standing There by The Beatles.

One of the Beatles protege groups (when Apple Records was launched) were The Iveys.

The Iveys (later Badfinger) weren't the only popular act to chart under a different name on their first hit. Another example was in 1956, with a chart single called "You're the apple of my eye" by the Four Lovers. They had all their subsequent chart hits starting in 1962 with "Sherry" as the Four Seasons.

I have Apple of My Eye on a Four Seasons Compilation and have heard other Four Lovers songs They defintely lacked the polish that the Four Seasons would come to have. As Dave said, The Four Seasons first chart hit was Sherry. But a group called The Sherrys had a hit of their own, called Pop Pop Pop-Eye.

The Sherrys got in the Popeye dance craze of the fall '62 as did Chubby Checker with "Popeye the Hitchhiker".

Chubby did a version of Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On, a big hit for Jerry Lee Lewis.
