K, let's get going. (GET IT, K? ) Kansas-American mainstream prog rock. I've never really been inclined to explore beyond the greatest hits though. And when I think of it, I like several songs quite a bit! Actually they are somewhere between prog and arena rock. SICK TO DEATH of Carry on Wayward Son, way moreso than Dust in the Wind, which is actually still a great song. My fave however is Fight Fire With Fire, which isn't even Steve Walsh on vocals. Almost sounds like Rainbow. Faves-Fight Fire With Fire, Point of Know Return, Hold On. KC and the Sunshine Band-In an elite group of artists with more than 5 number 1's. SICK of Get Down, That's the Way and Booty. But luckily, I only discovered their other hits in recent years. That's right, I didn't know 2 of their number 1's, and a number 2! Shame on me! They are 70s legends, and although I never thought about it, maybe a place in the Hall someday?? Faves-I'm Your Boogie Man (LOVE IT), Boogie Shoes, Please Don't Go. Chaka Khan-I'll take her version of I'm Every Woman over Whitney's ANYDAY. But I really truly LOVE I Feel For You, which is so UN-Sat. But I love the music, the singing, even the "rapping" of "Chaka Kahn, lemme rock ya, it's all I wanna do" in the background. Actually picked up the album on vinyl used! And may as well note that Tell Me Something Good with Rufus is my fave song to be considered "funk". Fave-I Feel For You. Greg Kihn-Kinda EH about him at this point. Jeopardy was so overplayed on MTV back then, that the novelty wore off. And then in recent years it became overplayed on VH-1 "Lost Artist" weekends with Toni Basil and Dexy's Midnight Runners. Reunited was a weak followup. And I'm even sick of Breakup Song at this point. Fave-Breakup Song. Andy Kim-Bubble gum pop. Decent cover of the Ronnettes' Baby, I Love You. Rock Me Gently was very good also. Nothing I'd search out though. Your opinions?

[glow=teal,2,300]Kansas- Okay, I thought Kansas was a state...not a band. Needless to say, I haven't heard of them.
KC and the Sunshine Band- Okay...I despise most disco, but these guys were enjoyable. I really liked "Please Don't Go", and "That's The Way I Like It".
Chaka Khan- She looked really good in that "I Feel For You" video. And, I agree with you on her doing a better job than Whitney on "I'm Every Woman".
Greg Kihn- Not one of my picks, personally. With hits like "Jeopardy" and "The Break-Up Song", they sounded more depressing than enjoyable.
Andy Kim- He was very influential regarding that classic 1969 hit by the Archies "Sugar Sugar". Either he wrote the songs, or he was a back-up singer for Ron Dante in that band, but I think he should be remembered for a lot more than "Rock Me Gently".

Kansas - I guess someone who lives in Kansas should think the group Kansas is good. I do, but long before I lived here. A bit of Top 40 trivia, their career was actually slowed because when they showed up for auditions, people expected a country band vice the rock band they were. Oh well, great band, somewhat overplayed now, but I never get tired for their songs. Dust in the Wind is a classic that is an all-time favorite of both my kids. Other favorites: Point of Know Return, People of the South Wind, Hold On, Carry On Wayward Son.
KC & the Sunshine Band - Great 70s dance group, maybe the best. Added a different twist to the charts in 1975 after a couple years of bland ballads. Favorites: That's the Way, Boogie Shoes, Please Don't Go
Chaka Kahn - Never got into her, although Tell Me Something Good is a good song.
Greg Kihn - ?
Andy Kim - Kind of typical AM pop. Andy was ok. Favorites: How'd We Ever Get This Way, Baby I Love You, Rock Me Gently.

Kansas - One of my favorite mainstream rock groups of the late 70's-early 80's. Your description of them as being between prog and arena rock is right on the money, and they do justice to both genres. What troubles me about this band is that radio plays only 2 or 3 of their hits to death, while ignoring some of their finest work. Favorites: People of the South Wind (this would easily make my personal top 50 songs - love it!), Dust in the Wind, What's On My Mind, Point of Know Return, Play the Game Tonight.
KC & the Sunshine Band - Love them! Harry Casey is a very gifted songwriter and performer who I think is somewhat overlooked these days. Everything I've ever heard of theirs is wonderful. Favorites: Keep It Comin' Love, That's the Way (I Like It), I'm Your Boogie Man, Shake Your Booty, Wrap Your Arms Around Me, Get Down Tonight.
Chaka Khan - She has a wonderful voice, with great power. Her work with Rufus in the 70's and early 80's was outstanding. Favorites: I'm Every Woman, I Feel for You, At Midnight (My Love Will Lift You Up), Stay, Ain't Nobody, You Got the Love (last 4 with Rufus).
Greg Kihn - I'm only familiar with 'The Breakup Song' and 'Jeopardy' and like both of those. I bought Kihnspiracy on cassette years ago for 'Jeopardy', and never got around to listening to the rest of it!
Andy Kim - Not an artist I know much about beyond a few hits, but I absolutely love 'Rock Me Gently' - that song brings back a ton of childhood memories! Other favorites: Baby, I Love You, Fire, Baby I'm On Fire.

Last night on the Country awards, I was thinking how the name Alabama could never work for a rock band. I mean, there is no mistaking Boston as anything other than rock. But could you imagine Alabama as a rock group name?

KC and The Sunshine Band - Yeah I like alot of Harry's or KC's:) tunes I had That 's The Way I Like It on 45 as a kid and on a Ktel LP as well as Get Down Tonight. Faves : Boogie Shoes , Keep it Comin' Love , Get Down Tonight and That's The Way I Like it.

K, ;D, well at first glance it looked like a weaker list today, but upon thinking about it, it's actually a pretty good day!
Kansas-When I worked in a record store in the mid 90's, I remember this guy came in one day and told me the story of when he bought the Kansas album in 1977. "I loved that song 'Dust In The Wind'", he said, "But then I got the album and the rest of it was horrible noise!" When I related this story to an older co-worker later that day, his response was "What's he talking about? They were some of the finest musicians out at the time!!" Somewhere, in the bottomless pit that is my record collection, I have The Best Of Kansas. I should look for it.
KC & The Sunshine Band- One of the great disco groups, they were just fun and happy (why doesn't anybody smile like that anymore). They just looked so happy to be playing music. The "Big 3" #1's are burned out with me, too, but I LOVE Keep It Comin' Love and Sound Your Funky Horn!
Chaka Khan-I liked her in Rufus better. "Ain't Nobody" is probably my fave.
Greg Kihn-He was actually a THREE hit wonder. Nobody seems to remember his '85 hit "Lucky", but THAT'S the one that brings back the ol' 8th grade memories for me!! Probably in my 100 favorite songs of all time!
Andy Kim-I'd like to pick up a collection of his hits, but I don't think there is a domestic CD. I've seen an import available but it's missing "How'd We Ever Get This Way". How dare they?

Was there a video to Lucky? Yup, I've seen it, but barely remember it. We didn't get MTV in the 80's (My town has always had the WORST cable company!! ), but there was briefly a UHF station called V66, which showed videos 24/7. Since it wasn't a cable station, I could only watch it on a small portable with rabbit-ears. So my V66 video memories are "Snowy, at best"

Hey Ken! But is Greg's version of For You better than Manfred Mann's Earth Band?? I like them both - Manfred's arrangement is VERY different (heavier guitar , as well as that guitar / synth solo). Where Greg's is a more on the pop side . It's actually kind of cool to listen to both back to back.
