I work in music/dvd store. We have been playing "Songs From the Sparkle Lounge" the latest from Def Leppard! It's a pretty solid release. So much better than "X" which was a disappointment.

Cool title! I may have to check that album out. I have High 'N Dry and Pyromania, but they started to lose me with Hysteria even though I did like a couple of the songs on it. I think a lot of that had to do with radio overplay.

Yesterday I was listening to a great album I found online, Look Where I Am, by Erik Heller. It was released in 1968, and sounds similar to Donovan's material from the period.

I've been listening to 90's dance music and Eurodance all day. I'm not usually into trance or techno music, but for some reason I like Eurodance and that kind of stuff.
I've been listening to groups like Technotronic, La Bouche, Culture Beat, Black Box, Snap!, Deee Lite, Le Click, Captain Hollywood Project, Emjay, BKS, etc....
Brings back good memories of school dances from grade 4-8 (1994-1998/99).

Mostly metal, as I've been going more and more in that direction for the past couple of years. I was on a big soul music kick this past winter, but with the breakup and all, it was just depressing the hell out of me. So I needed to put some "hell" back into me, LOL. Plus, I've been going to the gym, getting back into weightlifting (one of my other passions). I don't want to be trying to bench press 225 pounds while listening to mellow music. It just doesn't work. I can't get enough Metallica, Megadeth, or Sabbath. I've also been getting into groups from the 80's that I "missed" back then (meaning I knew they existed, but never heard their music), like Metal Church, Testament, Voivod, etc...... Nothing too extreme, I need to understand the words and hear some semblance of melody. That's great that you're getting back into weightlifting, Pete. I've been thinking of starting a light weight-training program myself, as I've lost a lot of muscle tone and strength over the last couple of years and would like to get back in shape as much as possible. I agree, metal music is sometimes just the thing for getting fired up and energized. I think Mark may have had a couple of metal mix cassettes with Metal Church and Testament tracks on them back in the day, but I don't think I've ever heard of Voivod. Voivod was/is a Canadian band with a strong emphasis on technololoy. The first time I heard of them was in 1987, in a Hit Parader ad for new releases on one of those metal indie labels. The band name was spelled out in this weird logo that made the letters almost impossible to read. A couple of years later, they got some MTV play with a cover of Pink Floyd's "Astronomy Domine". Does Mark happen to remember a band called Lizzy Borden? I just downloaded a "best of" CD from them and it's really good!

I asked Mark about Lizzy Borden, and he said yes, that he remembers them, and has heard a couple of their songs. He's been wanting to check out some of the metal groups he missed back in the day, mostly the mid-to-late '80s stuff. He concentrated mainly on metal/hard rock up until about 1986/87, and then he started getting more into older, classic rock.

Just yesterday I was listening to the Bee Gees' Idea while doing some long-overdue filing of papers. What a great album that is! I especially love Kilburn Towers, very underrated track.

I just discovered a great album - A Little More Haven Hamilton, Please by June & the Exit Wounds (Todd Fletcher). I'd read that it was heavily inspired by both Todd Rundgren and Brian Wilson, so I definitely wanted to check it out. It's awesome - if you're a fan of Todd and/or Brian's stuff, I'd highly recommend it.

I know Vicki mentioned listening to some dance music from her formative years. I was visiting a friend this evening and played a mix CD a created for him. This included hits from Salt n' Pepa, Notorious B.I.G., Crystal Waters, & Janet Jackson to name a few.
Speaking of dance music, I recently took home "Hard Candy" the latest CD from Madonna and features "4 Minutes" her hit duet with Justin Timberlake. This was a promotional copy given so we can play it in store. No one had interest, so I it was rewarded to me. I also own the "Immaculate Collection" and "Like A Prayer" which are both worth owning.

Amazing, Dave, how it's the new MADONNA CD and no one has interest. Shows how far she's fallen in recent years. I like some of her hits, but other than her "Like A Virgin" era, I never thought she was all that attractive (quite honestly, I think she's kinda gross..)

I've been in a 1970's singer/songwriter "mellow" period lately...in particular Gordon Lightfoot (I had my sophomore English class "examine" "Carefree Highway" for a poetry interpretation exam), and...
please forgive me...
Barry Manilow. I must've played "Mandy" and "Weekend in New England" a dozen times Thursday and Friday while finishing paperwork. Definitely time for summer!

My buddy Pete gave me a copy of the Complete Greatest Hits of Gordon Lightfoot. One of my favorite cuts is "The Circle Is Small" which I believe was his last top 40 hit in 1979. This afternoon, I popped in "Beatles Anthology Part 2". It's pretty fun to see how the Beatles constructed their songs in the studio. All three volumes of the Anthology are currently in print. If you find a used copy, I recommend purchasing one for yourself.

Much Music played it quite a few times. The video was "very trippy."

We were in the car quite a bit over the holiday weekend, and listened to some XM radio (mainly the '50s and '60s stations) but had 4 cds on during various times. They included:
Volume 7 of my all time top 250 collection The Hollies: Biggest and Best Soundtrack from "Music and Lyrics" The Music Click 5th Anniversary CD

Since the weekend, I've been listening to a lot of the same music my boyfriend listens to. Bands like Three Days Grace, Deftones, Paramore, Flyleaf, Taking Back Sunday, Bullet For My Valentine, Thrice, Rise Against, etc... So genre-wise I suppose its hard rock, emo, emo-core, pop-rock, punk. Its really good stuff, fun to sing along with actually
