My mood is changing daily lol. Right now I'm listening to 80's dancey and new wave stuff. Yesterday I was into 60's garage rock and psychedelic rock. The day before I was listening to some new music (gasp!) and actually enjoying it. I'm quite fond of Katy Perry's new song ("Hot N Cold"). A really good song is playing right now. "Living On Video" by Trans X. They're a Canadian group from the 80's. This song makes me want to dance around like an idiot

Viki, Last month, I volunteered at my church bazaar. We also had a white elephant table (this is known as flea market finds in the U.S.) Here are the CD's I bought at one dollar apiece. Confessions - Usher Fallen - Evanescence All the Pain Money Can Buy - Fastball Also I recently purchased the new Brian Wilson & Metallica CD's as well.

I recently purchased The Classics IV Greatest Hits, and have getting my fill of Stormy, Spooky, Traces, and a few other gems of the disc. It's great October music.

I remember when I bought the cassette back in the late '80s, I played that tape in my car almost constantly for weeks. Midnight is another really good track that you don't hear very often. Those songs always remind me of October, too!

I suppose the Halloween reference in Spooky - but why all of their music? I checked in my Whitburn, Spooky hit the chart in January of '68; Stormy in mid November '68, Traces in February of '69, and Every Day With You Girl in late May '69. Not a single October song. But the mood - throughout is definitely October. Oh -- and the CD that I'm listening to in my car today? Dark Side of the Moon.

Every one of Classics IV's hits has the EXACT same riff in it somewhere. The "Spooky" riff.. You know, "Dit, Dit-Dit.. Dit Dit Dit". I guess you could say they were a "one riff wonder". But I do like them a lot, and they could possibly be a future "contender", if I get off my ass and bring it back for a forth season.....

I just had to "play" the four songs in my head, and you are right! (I wasn't sure at first about "Every Day With You Girl" but it sure is there!) Yeah! Do some more Contender. Those were good.

I know I've talked to Dave about this, but all I've listened to for the past month has been KISS. Every day, when I go on my lunch break, I go for a long walk. I bring my iPod and listen to every thing from Frehley's Comet to White Tiger (Mark St. John band), and of course, every KISS album, including everything Gene, Paul, Peter, Ace, and Vinnie Vincent have done solo! (I've become quite fond of the albums "Lick It Up" and "Hot In The Shade", which I used to kind of overlook). After work, I go to the gym, and it's more KISS. Then I come home and watch a Kissology DVD.
Oh, and "Family Guy".... The episode with KISS!!

Even their minor '72 hit "What Am I Crying For?", has a variation of that riff. It will return soon, I've just been SO busy, and just this past weekend I finally got my computer fixed and my high speed Internet up and running..

Confessions - Usher Fallen - Evanescence All the Pain Money Can Buy - Fastball Also I recently purchased the new Brian Wilson & Metallica CD's as well. Dave, what do you think of the new Brian CD? Dawn, thank for your post. I have Brian Wilson CD in my boom box right now. I have to this is Wilson's strongest solo work since his self-titled debut back in 1998. I have to exclude the unearthed masterpiece Smile considering it was about 37 years old and written initially for the Beach Boys. That Old Lucky Sun is a concept album for Brian. The lyrics and mood are akin to romance novel of Brian's early days of writing, recording and performing with the Beach Boys. Evidence can be found on "Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl" Summer '61 A goddess became my song I fell in her ocean eyes As endless as the sky
Forever she'll by my surfer girl My little oneThe CD is insterspersed with vocal interludes spoken by Brian himself. He also had help collaborating with writers Van Dyke Parks and Scott Bennet, whom plays bass "Southern California". One of the standout tracks - there are many - is the Latin flavored "Mexican Girl". Back in 1965 Wilson fell in love with "California Girls", this time he found inspiration south of the border. Hey Mexican girl, with eyes burning of fire Heal me with your passion Inspire me to inspireEven though Wilson is older, it's still great to hear he possesses the passion and wisdom of those a quarter of his age. But Wilson isn't content just to reflect on his happy times. "Midnight's Another Day" reflects upon how his success couldn't hide the struggles of his depression. But this song doesn't come off as a stereotypical dark ballad. Moreover, a reflection of mistakes made and the wisdom of coming out on the other side a wiser man. The CD closer "Southern California" reflects on the simple beginnings with the Beach Boys I had this dream Singing with my brothers In harmony supporting each otherEven though Wilson hasn't recorded with the Beach Boys in over 12 years. You can still hear those harmonies echoed with the singers in Wilson's current band. I highly recommend That Lucky Old Sun for any Beach Boys, Brian Wilson fan our listeners whom enjoy lovely harmonies.

I think for me part of the reason is that the Atlanta Rhythm Section's remake of Spooky (which I knew before I heard the original) came out in late September or October, plus I think I bought that Classics IV greatest hits cassette I mentioned in October as well. But you're right, those songs do have an autumn/October mood to them.
